ICISF’s cohort-based online courses are interactive and engaging with other students and include discussions, updated text and reference materials, videos, and scenarios used to facilitate learning.  Your progress is guided by an instructor, while still allowing for the flexibility you want from an online course.  The instructor guided online courses are self-paced with a two or three week timeframe to complete all modules.

Law Enforcement Perspectives for CISM Enhancement

Learn to identify, understand, and work with the “Blue Wall of Silence” in the law enforcement community. Designed to provide insight and understanding of the different types of stress in law enforcement culture from a systems perspectives emphasis, this course will provide practical “back pocket skills” in providing crisis intervention services to law enforcement organizations and individual personnel in crisis.The LE Perspectives course is intended for law enforcement officers, their families, mental health professionals, chaplains, and organizations that interact within the law enforcement community. It is an excellent course for CISM teams and team members who would want to enhance their understanding of the differences in the law enforcement culture as compared to other first responder cultures.

Managing School Crises: From Theory to Application

Designed to prepare school administrators and all educators for the inevitable crises that occur within schools and/or that effect those in schools, this training reflects the 3 most common phases of a crisis: pre-crisis planning, acute crisis response and post-crisis activities. Special attention is given to the most common pitfalls (those that pose the most threat to school personnel from a liability standpoint) associated with crisis response activities.

  • This course is delivered during a two (2) week time frame.  This course is a self paced, interactive course which contains discussions and assignments on the content.
  • Group Crisis Intervention is recommended as a prerequisite but not required as an overview of intervention techniques will be provided.

Suicide Awareness: An Introduction for Crisis Responders
The ability to recognize and effectively intervene with suicidal individuals is one of the most challenging aspects of crisis intervention. This course is designed to increase awareness of suicide, and equip participants with information and basic skills to respond to a person considering suicide. This is an online introductory level course recommended for those without formal mental health training.

Techniques for Delivering Bad News for Crisis Response Personnel

Whether we are a recipient or a messenger of bad news, it impacts and distresses each of us.  The necessity of delivering upsetting information causes most people distress. No one likes to be the bearer of bad news.  The difficult task, however, can be made less painful if certain principles and practices are employed.
