Changing Angles to Change Outcomes: Using CISM to Help Break the “Fix It” Mentality

Description:

Public safety and service providers pride themselves on problem solving and making situations better.  Unfortunately, this noble idea is a double-edged sword which can lock good intentioned people into a self-defeating paradigm.  This will illustrate a proactive, “left of bang” approach to CISM instead of approaching service delivery from a reactive, “fix it” mentality.  Topics for this include:

  1. Understanding the components and origins of the public safety “fix it” mentality.
  2. Learning to build upon “what’s working”.
  3. Strategies for making CISM work “left of bang”.
